Public Works Department

The City of Katy’s Public Works Department is responsible for the water, wastewater/sanitary sewer, drainage, streets, sanitation, permits and inspections, grounds and vehicle maintenance. Over 50 miles of paved streets are continuously maintained, repaired, cleaned, swept and improved. There is an ongoing program of annual street overlay projects in all areas of the City. More than 500 street lights enhance the safety of the City streets, with the number of lights steadily increasing.

A high standard of permitting and inspections are enforced by a staff knowledgeable of City Building and Construction Codes, which provides for the safety, health, welfare, protection and benefit of the property owners. The City’s Code Enforcement Officer works to ensure that health and zoning regulations are maintained. Violations for unsafe or unsanitary conditions can be reported using the Code Enforcement Complaint Form. City facilities, grounds and vehicle maintenance are tended by skilled crews and is a vital component of all City operations.

Our well-maintained, modern and state-approved water plants furnish fresh, potable water for the citizens of Katy, and our wastewater treatment plant provides satisfactory sewage collection and disposal for the City, both at reasonable cost to customers.

The City of Katy Public Works Department provides 24-hour emergency services. To report emergencies between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM, please call our Public Work office at 281-391-4820. If there is an emergency after normal business hours, weekends or holidays, please call the Police Department at 281-391-4848. They will contact the appropriate public works personnel.
