Water, Sanitary Sewer, Drainage, Streets, Sanitation, Permits & Inspections, Parks, and Buildings, Grounds & Vehicle Maintenance are all functions of the City’s Public Works Department. Over 40 miles of paved streets are continuously maintained, repaired, cleaned, swept, and improved. There is an ongoing program of annual street overlay projects in all areas of the City. More than 500 street lights enhance the safety of City streets, with the number of lights steadily increasing. A high standard of Permits & Inspections is enforced by a staff knowledgeable of City Building and Construction Codes, for the safety, health, welfare, protection, and benefit of property owners. The City’s Code Enforcement Officer works to ensure that health and zoning regulations are being maintained. Violations for unsafe or unsanitary conditions can be reported using the Code Enforcement Complaint form. Buildings, Grounds & Vehicle Maintenance tended by skilled crews is a vital component of all City operations.
6 well-maintained, modern, State-approved Water Plants furnish adequate fresh, potable water for the citizens of Katy at reasonable rates. The Sewage Treatment Plant provides satisfactory sewage collection and disposal for the City at moderate cost to customers. Our process facility presently handles 3.075 MC per day. Almost 10 miles of Storm Sewers plus numerous drainage Garbage Account InformationRepublic Services is the solid waste collection provider for the City of Katy. Collection for residences south of Franz Road is on Tuesday and north of Franz Road is on Friday. Trash must be placed at the curb by 8:00 a.m. and will be picked up before 5:00 p.m. “Curb” refers to that area as close to the roadway as possible without interfering with traffic flow and not greater than four feet from the roadway. Republic Services will collect heavy trash including furniture, appliances, yard waste, bulky items, and tree trimmings each week with your regular garbage. Tree trimmings must be less than 2” in diameter, cut into 4-foot lengths and tied neatly in bundles not to exceed 40 pounds. Republic Services will NOT collect gas tanks, car parts, wet paint, tires, hazardous materials, items containing Freon or that have not been certified that the Freon has been removed or any type of construction debris including, but not limited to, sheet rock, lumber, shingles and concrete. EmergenciesThe City of Katy Public Works Department provides 24 hour emergency services. To report emergencies between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM, please call our public work office at 281-391-4820. If there is an emergency after normal business hours, weekends or holidays, please call the Police Department at 281-391-4848. They will contact the appropriate public works personnel.
