Councilmember J. Gary Jones is a native Texan, former Marine and, for several years, a proud Katy resident. Gary was born in Baytown, Texas, where he attended Robert E. Lee High School, and attended Lee College and the University of Houston. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) San Diego – Semper Fi!
Gary worked for B & R Inc.’s legal department for 20 years, where he handled employment and labor-related issues. He entered his wife’s insurance claim business as a partner in 1995 and they sold the business in 2014.
Gary is a life member of the Houston Livestock Rodeo, American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) and the National Rifle Association (NRA). He has served as a board member of the Baytown Youth Fair & Rodeo and Board of Administration for Cedar Bayou Methodist Church. He also served as Executive Officer of Brown Builder Federal Credit Union.
Gary is a former State Republican Executive Committee Member, was a state delegate to the National Republican Convention to nominate President Ronald Reagan and most recently served on Katy’s City Planning and Zoning Commission.
Gary has been married to Sherri (Cullins) for almost 26 years, and they have one daughter, Meghan, and three grandchildren: Mason, Abi and Megan. Gary is a hunter, likes to play dominoes and enjoys country music.
